The German Disease and the Day After the Election
27.01.2025
PCTR cordially invites you to a discussion with Arnold Vaatz: The German Disease and the Day After the Election. It will be held on Monday, February 3, 17:00 at CEVRO University and moderated by Alexandr Vondra. If you plan to attend, please register below.
In the last three years, Germany has lost a considerable part of its international prestige due to economic stagnation, harmful effects of its migration and energy policies and a hesitant response to the security crisis caused by the Russian war on Ukraine. Some authors have argued that those are not temporary turbulences but signs of the exhaustion of the entire German model. At the same time, Germany remains the leading European economy and a major political player, crucial for formulating any European response to the challenges of the present day.
In the discussion with our special guest, we will present an overview of Germany’s economic, political, and social situation on the eve of the upcoming election and analyse potential scenarios for the post-electoral period.
Arnold Vaatz was born in Saxony, East Germany. He was an active member of the anti-communist opposition before 1989 and an important regional and federal politician after German reunification. A member of the CDU, he served as a member of the Bundestag from 1998 to 2021 and was a deputy chairman of a political faction in the Bundestag.
